Selling on an Iraca marketplace
When a marketplace lets buyers pay right on a listing, the money reaches you through your own Stripe account. This page covers what each sale costs, what shows in your books, and what happens when a sale goes wrong.
Connect Stripe first
You connect Stripe once, under Settings → Payments (see Payments and Stripe); the same account takes your other card payments too.
Buyers can only pay on your listings once your business has connected Stripe and finished onboarding. If Iraca asks you to Reconnect Stripe, do that before selling: your account was set up the older way, and card sales are paused on it until it's replaced.
What a sale costs
Each sale carries two fees, both taken from the charge before the money lands in your Stripe balance:
- Commission: a share of the sale for the marketplace that brought you the buyer. The platform rate is 8%. A marketplace operator can set a higher rate for their marketplace, never a lower one, and the rate is shown in the marketplace's vendor terms.
- Card fee: Iraca's fee for processing the payment, set by your plan (1% on Free, 0.5% on Standard, 0.3% on Scale).
Stripe also charges its own processing fee (2.9% + 30¢ on a US card), billed to your Stripe account like any card payment.
On a $100 sale on the Standard plan, you receive about $88.30: $100 less the $8.00 commission, the $0.50 card fee and Stripe's $3.20.
When the operator is the merchant of record for a marketplace (the buyer pays the operator), the operator is charged instead and pays you as agreed with them.
Your books
When a buyer pays you directly, Iraca records the sale straight away:
- Cash goes up by what actually reached your Stripe balance.
- Stripe's fee and Iraca's fees are recorded as expenses.
- The full sale amount sits in Marketplace Clearing until the order ships. When you fulfill it, the clearing balance returns to zero.
If the order can't be filled
If the item sold out between the buyer starting checkout and paying, Iraca cancels the sale and refunds the buyer in full, Iraca's fees included. Nothing reaches your books.
Disputes
If a buyer disputes the payment with their bank, Stripe takes the amount back from your balance with a dispute fee. Iraca records both against Marketplace Clearing and your expenses, the order shows a Card dispute card, and the dashboard lists it under What needs you. Answer in your Stripe dashboard before the deadline. If you win, the entries are reversed.
