Getting Paid with Iris
The Get paid guide walks you through taking payments in Iraca, one step at a time: connect Stripe, see every place a customer can pay you, and send yourself a $1 test link to see what your customers see. It's on every plan.
Start it from Settings → Payments, Invoices, the Register (POS) or your Storefront (the Set up getting paid with Iris button), or from I want to….
What the guide does, and what it never does
Nothing is connected, switched on, sent or charged until you tap the button that says so. Every switch in the guide is the same one you'd find in Settings, so you can change it here or there and both stay in step. You can leave at any point with Save and finish later, or do it all by hand from Settings → Payments.
1. Connect Stripe
Payments go through Stripe: Stripe holds the money and pays it out to your bank. The guide shows the same card as Settings → Payments, with your plan's card rate. Tap Connect Stripe, give Stripe your details, and Stripe sends you back to Settings → Payments, where Back to the guide returns you to where you were.
You can't move past this step until Stripe has turned payments on for your account. If your account was connected before Iraca moved to direct payments, the guide asks you to reconnect it first.
If your business has no country saved
The guide needs to know where your business is. If no country is saved yet, it opens on one step that asks for it, with a Set my country button that takes you to Settings → Organization. Pick the country from the list there and save, then come back: the guide picks up at Connect Stripe (for a business in the United States). It can't be finished until a country is saved.
The country is what you saved for your business, not where you are: Iraca never looks at your location or connection.
Outside the United States
Payments through Iraca work only for businesses in the United States for now. If your business is elsewhere, the guide opens on a single step that says so, with no Connect button. Your customers can still pay you by bank transfer, check or cash, and you record those payments on each order or invoice.
2. Where you get paid
A list of every place a customer can pay you, and whether it's on:
| Place | How customers pay | Switch |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice pay link | Bank transfer from the link in the invoice email | On/off (needs Invoicing & Bookkeeping) |
| Customer portal checkout | Card, and bank transfer if you allow it | Portal on/off, and bank transfer on/off |
| Register (POS) | Card | Follows your Stripe connection |
| Online store | Card | Follows your Stripe connection, once the store is published |
| Menus and catering | Card | Follows your Stripe connection |
At the top you see what each method costs: your plan's card rate, and bank transfer at 1% per payment, capped at $10. Places your plan doesn't include yet are listed underneath.
If nothing can take payments, Iris warns you, but it doesn't stop you finishing.
3. Try it (with Invoicing & Bookkeeping)
Tap Email me the test link and Iraca makes a $1 invoice to you and emails you its pay link, exactly as a customer would get it. It's an ordinary invoice: it gets a number, and you can open it from the guide.
- Nothing is charged unless you pay it.
- When you finish or start over, the test invoice is voided (its entry in your books is reversed) as long as nobody has paid it. If you were added as a customer just for the test, that customer goes too.
- If you did pay it, the invoice stays as it is, because a payment is real money. Refund it from the invoice like any other.
Without the Invoicing & Bookkeeping add-on, the guide ends after step 2.
Finishing
Finish marks the guide done and voids an unpaid test invoice. Stripe stays connected and every switch stays as you left it. Start over does the same and nothing more: it never disconnects Stripe.
Only owners and admins can run the guide. Other team members can open it and read along.
