Getting an Official GS1 Barcode

Iraca lets you purchase a GS1-registered barcode (GTIN) directly from a product's detail page. The barcode is issued from Iraca's licensed GS1 company prefix, works on all major retail channels — including Amazon, Walmart, and in-store scanners — and is permanently yours once issued.

What is a GTIN?

A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the unique number encoded inside a UPC-A or EAN-13 barcode. Retailers and marketplaces use it to identify products in their systems. GTINs must be issued by GS1 — the global authority — to be valid for retail use.

Iraca issues GTIN-12 numbers (the format behind UPC-A barcodes), which are accepted worldwide.

Before you start

  • Your workspace must have a saved payment method. Add one under Billing before purchasing a barcode.
  • Each barcode is assigned to one product permanently. It cannot be transferred or refunded.
  • If a product already has a barcode typed in manually, you can still get an official GS1 one — it will replace the manual value.

Purchasing a barcode

  1. Open the product you want to assign a barcode to (Products → [product name])
  2. Scroll to the GS1 Barcode section near the bottom of the page
  3. Click Get GS1 Barcode — $X.XX
  4. Review the confirmation dialog — it shows the product name, SKU, and the charge amount
  5. Click Confirm to purchase

Iraca immediately:

  • Charges your saved payment method
  • Assigns a unique GTIN from the pool to this product
  • Writes the GTIN into the product's Barcode field

After purchase

The GS1 Barcode section updates to show:

  • The assigned GTIN in a monospace format
  • A GS1 Verified badge
  • The date of assignment and amount charged

The barcode is now available in the barcode builder (under Labels) and in any barcode profile that references this product.

Using the barcode on packaging

Once assigned, the GTIN is yours to print on your product packaging. You can:

  • Use the Barcode Generator (Labels → Barcodes) to generate a print-ready UPC-A image
  • Add a barcode element to a label template in the Label Builder and select this product's barcode profile
  • Export the barcode as PNG or SVG for use in design tools

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this barcode on Amazon and Walmart? Yes. GTINs issued from a licensed GS1 prefix are accepted by all major retail marketplaces. You may need to register the GTIN in each marketplace's catalog separately.

Is this a one-time fee? Yes. There are no recurring fees for a barcode purchased through Iraca. The charge appears once on your payment method.

What if I delete the product? The GTIN remains permanently assigned to that product record. It cannot be re-issued to a different product.

Can I get a barcode for a supply item? The GS1 Barcode section is available on all product types, including supplies.
