Local Delivery at Your WooCommerce Checkout

Let shoppers on your WooCommerce store choose local delivery and a delivery window at checkout, priced by the fee rules you already set in Iraca. You set zones, windows and fees once, in Iraca, and your store offers exactly what Iraca would: no WooCommerce shipping rules to keep in step by hand.

It needs the Local Delivery add-on and the free Iraca Connector plugin on your WordPress site.

What your shoppers see

Once a shopper enters a postcode inside one of your delivery zones, your upcoming delivery windows appear among the shipping options:

  • Local delivery: Thu, Oct 8, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm · $8.00
  • Local delivery: Sat, Oct 10, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm · $8.00

Picking a window is picking local delivery. Times are shown in your business's time zone, in your site's language. The price is your delivery fee for that cart, so it drops to free once the cart passes your free-delivery threshold.

Local delivery isn't offered when:

  • the postcode is outside every delivery zone,
  • the cart is below your minimum order for delivery (the classic checkout adds a line saying how much more is needed; the Checkout block simply leaves the option out),
  • there's no open window before your cutoff, or
  • the store's delivery setting in Iraca is Off.

Setting it up

  1. Install and connect the plugin. In WordPress, install Iraca Connector, then go to Iraca → Connector and click Connect to Iraca. Connecting fills in your business ID, which local delivery needs. (If you set the plugin up by hand with an API key, enter the Business ID as well: it's your business's short name in Iraca, as it appears in your customer portal address.)
  2. Connect the store in Iraca if you haven't already, under Integrations → Channels, so its orders import. See How marketplace sync works.
  3. Add the shipping method. In WooCommerce, go to Settings → Shipping, open the shipping zone that covers your delivery area (a whole country is fine) and add Local delivery (Iraca). Iraca decides which postcodes it actually delivers to. In the method's settings you can change the title shown at checkout and how many windows to list (six by default).
  4. Let customers decide. In Iraca, go to Settings → Local delivery → Which orders go on routes and set your store to Customer decides. See Which orders go on routes.

TIP

Your other shipping methods stay exactly as they are. A shopper in your delivery area sees your windows next to them and chooses.

When the order comes in

The next sync brings the order into Iraca already on the window the shopper picked, marked The customer chose local delivery, and it's ready for the dispatch board. The delivery fee on the order is what the shopper paid at checkout. The customer gets the usual delivery booked email.

A shopper who picked another shipping method is marked as choosing to ship, and the order stays out of your routes.

If the window the shopper picked filled up while they were paying (another customer took the last place), Iraca books the next open window instead and notes it on the order's activity, and the customer's email gives the new time.

Once an order has arrived, later syncs never move it: if your team changes its window or takes it off local delivery, that change stands.

Good to know

  • Shoppers are treated as retail customers. They get a window rather than a delivery day, and your standard fee rules, even if the same person is a wholesale account in Iraca. Wholesale accounts with negotiated delivery terms are best served through your customer portal.
  • The checkout doesn't slow down. The plugin asks Iraca only when WooCommerce works out shipping for a cart with a postcode, and remembers the answer for five minutes. If Iraca can't be reached, local delivery is simply left out of the options for a minute, and checkout carries on.
  • Your team can always change a single order from its Delivery card. See Local delivery orders.

This guide covers the Iraca app and its add-ons. The Iraca Marketplace is documented separately.
