Barcode Generator
Iraca can generate barcode and QR code images for any of your products. You define the code type and value once, save it as a profile, and download a print-ready PNG whenever you need it — no third-party tools required.
Go to Labels → Barcodes to manage your barcode profiles.
Supported code types
| Type | Format | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| UPC-A | 12 digits | US retail products sold in stores |
| EAN-13 | 13 digits | International retail products |
| Code 128 | Alphanumeric | Internal SKUs, lot numbers, warehouse codes |
| QR Code | Any text or URL | Internal product links, inventory lookups, packaging with links |
Which one do I need?
- If you sell in US retail (grocery, big-box), you need UPC-A. You must obtain a GS1 company prefix to issue valid UPCs — Iraca generates the image from the number you provide, but does not assign numbers.
- If you sell internationally, use EAN-13.
- For internal warehouse or production use, Code 128 works with any alphanumeric string (your SKU, batch number, etc.).
- For a scannable link on packaging — a URL to your product page or a lookup in Iraca — use a QR Code.
Creating a barcode profile
- Go to Labels → Barcodes and choose New Barcode.
- Enter a Profile Name to identify this barcode (e.g. "Granola Bar 28g — UPC").
- Select a Code Type from the four options. Each type shows a short description and format hint.
- Enter the Code Value:
- UPC-A: 11 or 12 digits (the check digit is included automatically if you enter 11)
- EAN-13: 12 or 13 digits
- Code 128: any alphanumeric string
- QR Code: any text, URL, or data string
- The live preview on the right updates immediately. If the value is invalid (wrong length for UPC/EAN), an error appears under the field.
- Choose Save Profile to store the profile.
Downloading the barcode image
Once the preview looks correct, choose Download PNG. The downloaded file is a high-resolution PNG (2× pixel density) ready for print or digital use.
The barcode image is generated in your browser on demand — it is not stored on Iraca's servers. The profile stores only the code type and value; the image is re-generated each time you open the editor.
Editing or deleting a profile
From Labels → Barcodes, click the profile name or the edit icon to open the editor. Change the name, type, or value and choose Save Profile.
To download the PNG directly from the list, click the Download icon — it opens the editor and triggers the export automatically.
To delete a profile, click the trash icon in the list. This only removes the saved profile — it does not affect any products.
Linking a barcode to a product
When creating or editing a barcode profile, you can optionally link it to a product. This is useful when you want to keep track of which barcode belongs to which product, but it is not required — the barcode works the same either way.
Adding a barcode to a label template
You can place a barcode directly on a product label using the Label Builder:
- Open or create a label template under Labels → Label Templates.
- In the Add Element palette, click Barcode — a barcode element appears on the canvas.
- Select the element and configure it in the Element Properties panel:
- Pick a saved profile — choose any barcode profile from the dropdown. The code type and value are filled in automatically and the barcode renders immediately.
- Enter inline — leave the dropdown on "enter value inline", select the code type, and type the value directly. No saved profile needed.
- Drag the element to position it anywhere on the canvas, then resize it using the W/H fields in the properties panel.
- Save the template.
Tips
- UPC-A check digit: If you enter 11 digits, the barcode library calculates and appends the check digit automatically. If you enter 12, make sure the last digit is the correct check digit or the barcode may be rejected by scanners.
- QR codes for internal use: You can encode your Iraca product URL or SKU in a QR code and print it on internal labels. When scanned with any QR reader, it opens the product page or triggers a lookup in your WMS.
- Print size: Barcodes should be printed at a minimum of 1 inch wide for reliable scanning. QR codes should be at least 1 × 1 inch.
Duplicating a barcode profile
Click the Duplicate icon on any profile row to create an exact copy. Useful when you need the same code type for a different product — duplicate, then change the product and code value.
