ASAP Delivery
Most local deliveries are booked ahead: a customer picks a window, a driver takes a route. ASAP delivery is for the order that has to go out now. There's no window and no day to pick. The moment you confirm it, Iraca asks your nearest driver on shift to take it, and if they can't, the next one.
It's optional, and off until you turn it on
Nothing changes for your booked deliveries. ASAP only appears where you switch it on, for the areas and order types you choose.
Turning it on
Three switches have to agree before anyone sees ASAP, so you stay in control of where it's offered.
- The zone. In Settings → Local delivery, open a zone and turn on Offer ASAP delivery in this zone. You can give the zone its own ASAP fee and its own free-over amount.
- The channel. In Settings → Local delivery → Channels, switch on Offer ASAP delivery for orders you enter yourself, for the customer portal, or both. It isn't available for marketplaces or store checkouts.
- Someone to take it. ASAP is only offered while at least one driver is on shift (see driver shifts), or while a courier network is connected and you've allowed the fallback below. If nobody is working, the option simply doesn't appear, so a customer is never sold something no one is there to deliver.
What ASAP costs
ASAP has its own price, separate from a booked delivery:
- The ASAP fee from the zone, or your business-wide default in Local delivery → ASAP delivery. If you haven't set one, ASAP uses your ordinary delivery fee.
- Free delivery only if you say so. Your usual "free over" amount is meant for a delivery with a day's notice, so it doesn't apply. An ASAP order is free for its size only when you set an ASAP free-over amount.
- The minimum order is the same as for any local delivery.
Placing an ASAP order
Yourself. On a draft order, open the delivery card and choose ASAP. It shows the fee, and it must be chosen before you confirm, because the fee is locked at confirmation. Choosing a window or a day instead takes the order off ASAP.
Your customer, in the portal. When ASAP is on offer, the cart's delivery section shows ASAP: out today beside the windows, with its fee. If the last driver goes off shift while the cart is open, checkout tells the customer in place and keeps their cart.
A portal order arrives as a draft like any other, so the search for a driver starts when you confirm it.
What happens next
When you confirm an ASAP order:
- It goes onto a route of its own, and Iraca asks one driver at a time to take it. The order is never offered to two drivers at once.
- Drivers are ranked by how close they are to your warehouse plus how much they already have on. A nearby driver with a full van doesn't always win. Drivers who are off shift, deactivated, or on the road with no recent location aren't asked.
- The driver has 90 seconds to accept. If they decline or don't answer, the next driver is asked, and nobody is asked twice in a round.
- Once a driver accepts, the order is theirs and it appears on their app with the full address. Nothing has left your shelves yet.
- When the driver collects the goods and taps I have the goods, the order is fulfilled, exactly like a van leaving, stock moves, the sale is booked, and the customer gets Out for delivery with a tracking link. From there it's an ordinary delivery.
The customer isn't sent a "booked for" email, since there's no day to confirm. Their first message is that it's out for delivery.
If the stock has run short by the time the driver arrives, the pickup is refused with the reason, nothing is fulfilled, and the order stays assigned so you can fix it.
When nobody takes it
If every driver declines, or no one is on shift, one of two things happens:
- A courier network takes it, if you've turned on If no driver takes an ASAP order, offer it to a connected courier network in Local delivery settings. Iraca asks each connected network for a price and books the cheapest that accepts. It's handled like any courier hand-off.
- It's left for you. The order shows on the dispatch board's ASAP orders panel as No driver took this, and it counts on your Dispatch badge and in your daily summary.
From there you can:
- Offer again to start a fresh round, where drivers who declined earlier are asked afresh.
- Hand it to a courier from its route, as for any stop.
- Take off ASAP, which removes it from ASAP and leaves it as an ordinary local delivery you can schedule.
You can also take an ASAP order over by hand at any time, by dispatching its route or handing it to a courier. Iraca notices and stops offering it.
Good to know
- ASAP always means today, in your business's time zone.
- A driver only sees the city and postal code until they accept. The street address and the customer's first name come with the acceptance.
- Location comes from the driver app while a route is on the road. A driver with no route in progress is treated as being at the warehouse they start from.
- A driver's answer is a race, so ASAP offers don't wait in the offline queue. If a driver has no signal they'll see that the tap didn't go through.
