How customers unsubscribe
Every marketing email you send through Iraca lets the customer stop getting them, in one click. You don't have to add an unsubscribe link or your address yourself: Iraca puts both on every message, and won't send one without them.
What's at the bottom of every marketing email
- Your business name and postal address. The law (CAN-SPAM in the US) requires a real postal address in every marketing email, so Iraca won't send one until your address is filled in under Settings.
- An Unsubscribe link that opens a page where the customer can stop your marketing emails.
The unsubscribe button in Gmail, Yahoo and others
Large mailbox providers show their own Unsubscribe button next to the sender's name. Iraca adds what those providers need to every marketing email, so when a customer clicks that button, they're unsubscribed straight away, with no page to visit and no sign-in.
Gmail and Yahoo require this of anyone who sends marketing email in bulk. It also helps you: a customer who can unsubscribe easily is less likely to mark your email as spam instead.
Whether the button appears is up to the mailbox provider. They tend to show it once a sender has sent a fair amount of email, so you may not see it on your first test messages.
Some mail apps unsubscribe by sending an email instead. Iraca reads those too, and the customer is unsubscribed within a few minutes.
What happens when a customer unsubscribes
- They're added to your list under Marketing → Suppressions, shown as Unsubscribed, and your marketing emails stop going to that address.
- It only applies to your business. If they're also a customer of another business on Iraca, that business can still email them.
- It only applies to marketing emails. Order confirmations, invoices and delivery emails keep arriving as before. Delivery emails have their own settings, which the customer changes from the link in those emails.
If a customer changes their mind
The page behind the unsubscribe link has a Subscribe button, so a customer who unsubscribed by mistake can undo it themselves.
They can't do that if their address is on your list for another reason, for example because they marked one of your emails as spam or their mailbox no longer exists. The page tells them to contact you instead.
You can't put an unsubscribed customer back on your list yourself. It has to be their own choice.
The customer's privacy
The unsubscribe page shows your business name, logo and email, and the customer's choice. It never shows their name or email address, because emails get forwarded and the link goes with them.
Trying it yourself
To see exactly what your customers get:
- Add yourself as a contact, using the email address you sign in to Iraca with.
- Go to Marketing → Sender and send yourself a test message.
The test arrives with the same footer and unsubscribe link your customers' emails carry. If you're not one of your own contacts, the test shows the footer with your address but no unsubscribe link, since there's no one to unsubscribe.
Leaving also withdraws consent
A customer who unsubscribes is marked Unsubscribed under Marketing → Consent, and can't be sent a confirmation email. Only they can come back: by pressing Subscribe on the page behind the unsubscribe link, or by ticking a marketing box again. See Who you can email.
